I only brought up their external IPs because it's the one you see on the start menu when you boot up the game. All they need is to be on the same network and have each other's local IPs. They also don't want to open up to the internet because it's just a LAN server. Some consumer routers have the ability to place different hardwired connections into different subnets, which I wanted to rule out first. Right now they can't even connect to the server, which indicates that they may not be in the same LAN because there wouldn't be any higher level routing blocking communication. First they have to check that they're in the same LAN first by pinging the computer hosting the server using their local IPs.
